There is no way you can put '100k of mods' into a Mustang. You could rebuild the engine with forged everything, swap to a different engine, whatever, make as much power as you want, have 100% custom engine controls, 100% brand new suspension, ect; it still would not cost that amount.

Which says to me that the driver was clearly proven a fucking moron before he even got into the car. I have no sympathy for people who associated with him.

Hard to say for sure though. Plenty of idiots in this area whose cars are worth more than the trailers they live in.

Yeah, we have those around here too. Go tearing up the back as all hours of the night with their fart cans and sub woofers. Both of which are worth more than the car. I'm not a slow driver but if I get one behind me, I purposely do the speed limit. It's fun to piss them off. Just a bunch of dumb white and brown kids trying to be ghetto.

They found the other driver and holy crap they came down on him hard!

Charged with murder and $2 million bail. Up to 33 years jail time.

Same as the Mustang driver, who is now claiming it wasn't him driving that night.

http://abc7.com/news/chatsworth-fatal-street-race-2nd-driver-in-custody/545907/

The driver of the second car involved in a fatal street race crash in Chatsworth has been charged with the murder of two spectators.

The driver, identified by police as 38-year-old Irael Valenzuela of Los Angeles, faces two counts of murder and one count of engaging in a motor vehicle speed contest on a highway causing a concussion, Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced Thursday.

Valenzuela was behind the wheel of a car involved in an alleged illegal street race against a souped-up Ford Mustang near Plummer Street and Canoga Avenue on Feb. 26, authorities said.

During the race, the Mustang lost control and plowed into a crowd of spectators. Two onlookers, Eric Siguenza, 26, and Wilson Thomas Wong, 50, were killed and a third was seriously injured.

Valenzuela was arrested Tuesday and was booked on suspicion of murder. He is being held in lieu of $2 million bail.

The driver of the Mustang, 21-year-old Henry Gevorgyan, fled the scene on foot after the crash, officials said. He surrendered to police on Saturday and was arrested. He was charged with two counts of murder and is being held in lieu of $2 million bail. Gevorgyan has pleaded not guilty to murder, with his attorney claiming that he wasn't even in the Mustang at the time of the crash. He could face 33 years to life in prison if convicted.

Prosecutors are requsting Valenzuela's bail be set at more than $2 million. If convicted, he faces a maximum possible sentence of 33 years to life in state prison.

Yeah but street racing is cool. It means you have lots of money and means you got mad driving skills. It means women want you, and men want to be like you. It makes you a hero. They should shoot them both in the head using bullets forged from metal from their cars.

Aluminum bullets are horrible and steel is really only good for birdshot.

Steel-coated lead works better.

I think murder is an excessive charge here, but it does sound like the authorities want to crack down hard on this.

Please explain why steel coated and any benefits over copper, copper blend, or just plain lead.

Also, should be able to get copper wiring from their car and lead from their wheels.

Horsepower vs someone that can't drive = death

I had a friend with a stock VW in college that knew how to drive. he could have probably toasted a stock mustang 5.0 on anything other than a straight away. He'd only have to get in front once.

How much power are we talking? Why did it lose control? Does it apply to auto-tragics?

Was a Ford GT or a Porsche Carrerra GT. A track car that was slightly modified to be fully legal to drive anywhere despite still being a barebones track car with no assistance aids and not much give or tolerance for carefree handling or mistakes.

I think authorities want to avoid a trial. They marginally have the legal right to charge with murder, so they'll charge with murder to force the drivers to plea bargain to something else as neither driver can afford to roll the dice with murder on the table. Way too big a risk.

Police trying to send a message most likely. You hurt someone in a race, we throw the book at you. They know these kids aren't going to follow the legal proceedings.

These two will probably end up with a manslaughter conviction.

Murder will no way stick. This is manslaughter. They didn't go out there with the intent to kill someone. That will be very, very hard to prove to a jury. Manslaughter, 5-10 seems adequate and plenty to make moron college kids think twice in their town. Like Gag said, the murder charge is symbolic. A plea deal will be incoming.

The proper way to "crack down" on this is to break up the street races when they're happening, arrest kids, fine them, and generally show them that it won't be tolerated.

Incidently, I don't even understand the sensativity around this. These kids were racing in an sparsely populated area in the middle of the night. Everyone that was there was showing up of their own accord. I could understand a crackdown if this racing was happening during the daytime on busy streets or highways. But it wasn't.

Which is horribly unethical because it undermines the accused's right to a defense. In my view, any prosecutor either is or should be ethically bound to bring charges justified by the alleged actions, and nothing more. Prosecutors who deliberately bring excessive charges should be disbarred. But we live in a society where "tough on crime" prosecutors and politicians give people erections, so I guess that won't be happening any time soon.

According to Wikipedia, murder is "the unlawful killing, with malice aforethought, of another human. I'd be interested in seeing the prosecutions justification for the charge if it's provided.
