Streaming/watching TV/video over a LAN?

I am thinking of setting up a server with some sort of TV card (like a Leadtek Winfast TV2000 Deluxe) --- plugging it into my Linksys 10/100 4 port router and using it to record movies/shows in MPEG4. I could then transfer the shows over the network and watch them on my computer or any other computer plugged to the network.

I noticed that ATI has options to share TV broadcast over a LAN using their Easyshare software. Can this be done with the Leadtek? I was thinking of purchasing a 9600XT and a separate TV card, but I might consider the ATI AIW 9600pro because of the Easyshare software.

Any ideas/ experiences comments here are welcome

VideoLan is capable of doing this, though I'm unsure of whether they have TV support. I do know they do DVDs just fine. It has both a Linux and Windows version, among other OSes.

EDIT: It doesn't read TV, however, since it fits you latter category of streaming video over a lan, I'll leave the link here. 🙂

Thanks guys. That Snapstream looks like what I?m looking for. Only problem it doesn?t seem to support the Leadtek cards. May have to consider a different card.

Linux XFree86 server/client based graphics supports networked displaying right out of the box, for everything. Including video streams.

Wow, the Snapstream apps seems really nice and does what I'd like too. Can someone please explain to me the main differences between this and myHTPC. Thanx.
