streaming video using linux

Are there any decent real time video streaming server for linux (rtsp). I am trying to stream some small video files in line with my webpage is this is possible. I would love to use something like what youtube or google video uses (flash based player). Any pointers to free or GPL 'ed software would be appriciated.

Thanks

arent helix and VLC just players I dont know if it can actually stream from them on demand. I have used VLC in past to stream live tv to my xbox but then I had to manually initate the process on my pc and I didnt have much control over the stream (pause rewind etc)
