Streaming video from NAS to TV?

Hello all,

I'm entertaining the idea of finally getting an LED TV (Samsung UN46C6500 maybe) and a NAS device (probably QNAP TS-419P) and would like to know if it's possible to stream video to the TV directly from the NAS.

Any input?

Well you can do it a couple of ways. First, is via something like the WD Live HD media player (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=832), or directly connected via either HDMI 1.4, or seperate video cable and S/PDIF coming out of a PC...assuming the mobo and vid card supports HD and 5.1/7.1 optical out. I personally chose the latter as my solution. A buddy of mine chose the former for his and he's got a NAS also.

If it supports DLNA (most higher-end Samsungs seem to), then yes - without needing another device.

Just make sure that TV is also capable of decoding most of the media file formats out there...otherwise you might need a 3rd party software to help decode them in the NAS...
