I have tried so many...I have used handbrakes 360 conversion, I have used a few others...I have tried SPECIFIC settings on SUPER.

Check out my settings : link

I tried 3 times, on 3 movies.

I know for a fact that it SHOULD stream correctly because I have a .wmv that works and views on my TV great.

I have been following this link from xbox on what codecs and containers work...

I am lost now, I have tried so many types of containers and whatnot.

They play FINE on my PC in VLC, shiet, they play fine in windows media player half the time ...

What exactly happens is, I go to play them via my 360, not using the WMC on the 360, but the other part that let's you choose your PC and whatnot. And it gives me an error, I check the error and it says that the codec does not work.

I have the extra media peice that I need from xbox live downloaded...I have searched the net for hours with no luck, encoded for days with no luck!

BTW : no TVersity, that thing buffered like hell for me...could not stand it.

Well, any help appreciated...

Shouldn't sample audio freq be 44100? It wasn't in the last screen. And I've always had fps set for 29.97

1. You're using the wrong H.264 profile. The 360 only supports H.264 to 4.1.
2. AAC isn't supported inside an AVI.
3. WMV+MP3 isn't supported. Use WMV+WMA

And, yeah, I hate TVersity, too.

hasnt that link been updated since the november NXE?

there is no option in super to do WMV + WMA audio.

what IS supported in AVI for AUDIO!>?!?!??!

how am I using the wrong H.264?

There was no additional AV codec support in the NXE update, as far as I'm aware. That disappointed me, too.

Well... time to use something other than SUPER?

Did you even look at the link? That answers your questions, and does it in pretty much the best way possible.

I guess I do not understand H.264...is it an audio codec? If I encode in AVI, WMV7 as video, and WMA as audio...and 44100 hz, shouldn't that work?

What is the best combination?

can you recommend a good converter that will to 360 viewable .wma's? Handbrake did not work either.

Did you read the link? I am getting the distinct impression you did not. H.264 is a video codec. As the link _clearly_ states, neither WMV7 nor WMA is supported within an AVI container.

If you want other people to help you, please actually _read_ what the links they give you.

What is the best combination?
If you need surround sound: AVI(XviD + MP3-5.1)

If you don't: MPEG-4(H.264 + AAC-LC)

Encode 360, if you can get it working. But you can't "view" a .wma file - it needs to be in .asf.

Encode to XVid. Don't try to encode to h.264 because it's a PITA.

Try fairuse wizard, and like Queasy said use Xvid. In the options in fairuse set the video to xvid and the audio to AC3. This should produce an .avi that will play on the 360 and maintain the 5.1 audio. I've done it for part of my collection and haven't had any issues streaming to the 360.

H.264 gives a far better compression ratio, though. And if you don't have a > 2 channel source, that makes it a better option.

Not disagreeing with that. Just saying that converting to h.264 and getting it to work on the 360 is currently a PITA. Which makes Xvid the better option until it is fixed.

Can the 360 stream Dolby Digital sound? (AC3??)

If so, what container? mp4, mkv, avi, etc....

What you are saying is try this?

I read the whole FAQ erwos...I am just unsure what exactly works, what I need to encode too...if what queasy says is right, I will try again tonight.

Yeah, and if the source material is 5.1 and you want 5.1, be sure to select 6 channel.

If this still doesn't work, give FairUse Wizard a try.

I found this converter that converts to WMV specifically...it keeps the quality, but for some reason the audio is off near the end of the 2 hour movie ... very slightly, but noticeable.

I do not care anymore though...2 hour movie took...almost 3-4 hours to convert too, which made no sense...haha.

Don't bother concerting. Either watch them via usb, or do them in what they are. 360 can support a lot of formats now.

He was converting because they weren't working, which is what he said multiple times. Did you read any of the thread or did you just go balls out based on the title alone? The 360 is actually quite picky on its own on formats. It's better than it originally was but it still has a lot of problems.

This whole thread , and what others have posted are me/them trying to get my videos converted to work specifically on the 360...

as gorcorps said...

Source, I was told handbrake would work great...but for some reason, it does not work for me :(...I can try again though.

but so far Total Video Converter has been working great with the WMV preset, videos are nearly flawless...except for the sound issue I get, but that happens with the other conversation programs I use. The originals audio tracks are correct, but anything I convert them..correctly, it's off. (on the 360 and my PC).

Super also worked, but I really had to fine tune it to get to the correct settings...I am still unsure what bitrate I should use with the audio, to coordinate with the video.

Man, you are going through alot of work to stream. What I do is if my machines (360, PS3, XBMC) can't play it, I just give up. I am not into re-encoding stuff.

I personally just start with MKVs if possible. It's fast and easy to convert for the PS3 or 360 from MKV.
