streaming media- a good program?

Hi guys. I dont know if this is the corrent forum for this but couldnt really find any other one suitable.

Anyways, I have a comptuer that I stream media from. E.g. a radio station. Just need to know what the best program to do this would be? I need one that will reconnect if the connection is lost, and i was using media player, but came back the next day and it wasn't playing. Do typical radio stations disconnect after a certain time over the internet do they?

Any ideas?
