I recently installed Orb and it got me to thinking......

I have a good friend I went to college with that recently moved across the country. He's been complaining about missing all of the football and basketball games since he's out of market. After seeing how well Orb works I'm thinking I should just stream him the game.

Is there a piece of software that will allow me to stream a channel from my tuner instead of having him log into my orb account. Somthing that that I could just give him an IP address?

Maybe I don't 100% understand Orb but it seems to me that I'd have to give him my login and psasword in order for him to watch it. I thought there might be a better alternative.

If you have a tuner in your PC, you could provide remote access to log into the PC and launch applications. Not sure if the video overlay would work, but would be worth a try.

Unless he has a super fast connection and you have fast upload speeds it's going to be a slideshow. Remote access programs just have too much overhead.

Orb works well and is pretty simple. Quality is as good as any streaming stuff I've seen on the internet. I just thought there might be a small footprint standalone program that would allow me to stream.

You know I'm not sure. I thought VLC was more like TVersity in that it could stream content across your home LAN. But as far as I know it can't stream it out across the internet.

How do sites like channelsurfing.net stream live video? I understand streaming static content pretty well but streaming live video other than Orb or Slingbox is a little over my head.

I'm not really worried about streaming HD content becaue most of the local market games are in SD anyway. I saw some of the basic slingboxes for about $60-$70 on fleabay so he may be willing to do that.

Is there a way in Orb to allow third parties to access your streamed TV rather than having to give them full admin access?
