Stream TV to your laptop wirelessly?

Could you have you desktop's TV tuner running, and then use an 802.11b network to stream the TV to your laptop? Perhaps using the remote desktop feature in WinXP?

Has anyone tried anything like this?

As far as I know, the only way to do this would be to capture the video, encode it (on the fly), and stream it as an mpg over the network.

I'll try it right now and see if I can get it to work...

Edit: With the software that I have, the only problem I have with doing this is that I can't view the same mpg that I'm capturing on a different computer (can't have two computers using the same file at the same time).

If you have the power, use the live encoding feature of the Windows Media Encoder and stream it. I doubt that you can change channels, though. You may have to use something like Remote Desktop for that, which can be a pain.

i was thinking to have the tv tuning on my desktop, then stream the what's on my desktop to my laptop, using "remote desktop" in winXP. that way i could view the tv without being bound by cable lines and wires.
