i have a nice machine for editing vids with adobe premiere in the 2nd flr bedroom. problem is baby son is now there at night. i dont want to move the desktop to the living room on 1st flr to do work at night or buy another pc.
what are my options? TeamViewer is too slow with vids being choppy and the colors look different. Windows Remote desktop refuses to play the preview vids in premiere. is SteamLink the solution?
i guess i can always run a 30ft hdmi cable down to the living room TV and 30ft usb cable for the kb/mouse?

If you need a solution that maintains colors the way they originally were, then an HDMI cable is really your only solution. Everything else will implement color compression and other tactics to get the signal to fit into standard Wi-fi connections.

If you have money to throw at the problem, you can get HDKVMs with HDBaseT that lets you run 4K HDMI + USB 2.0 over one Cat 5e or higher cable. They're very pricey though.

Give NoMachine a try. It's faster than TeamViewer, is also free, and doesn't remind you that you're using the free version every time you exit.

Once installed on both machines, they will automatically find other NoMachine servers on your local network. You can change the compression settings (VP8, H264, MJPEG) and framerate for the server if you want, but at the very least I highly recommend changing the Display Settings once you connect to your editing machine for improved image quality (see screenshot).

NoMachine works great!!!! much much better than teamviewer for sure
there is maybe a .5 seconds delay between vid and sound over wifi. but i can live with that. thanks!
now i wonder how Steam can make a box that can stream for $50 while im using an i5 laptop...

Bummer yes, but not really a problem. How is the color, though? You could play a video or view an image side by side remotely and directly on your other PC to compare the two.

Debug messages would be handy, for both Server (if it is complaining) and Client. The client end will take some time to make the connection, given the low rate of updates.
