Stray program advice

Hello everyone!

I have a program that runs in the background on one of my old PCs creating MP3s. I love what it does - when I'm away from PCs totally, the functionality that this program provides me I just cannot live without, despite it's horrible bad habit of corrupting Windows fairly regularly.

The symptom that I will notice is a little box that says "Windows can no longer accept any further entries to the registry as the registry is full." I am fine - until I reboot. Then I end up having to reinstall Windows.

While I've chosen to live with it for several months now, I wonder if there's a faster way to recover. I can't seem to figure out how to use the recovery console adeptly enough to do a fast recovery. I found some shareware that talked about backing up the registry...

Need more info. Name of program for mp3 creation and what version of Windows are you using. Is this a Microsoft error message you're getting, or a message from your mp3 software? What else is running on the machine? What kind of machine is it?

The error that I'm getting is from Windows. I have tried doing this with absolutely nothing else loaded except for the mp3 software. I've tried their technical support, with no luck. The machine is a Windows Media Center XP (2005) with update rollup 2. The website is

I've come to live with the fact that this software is at fault. I'm not struggling with that. I'm only struggling with the method to recover most quickly.

Ok, try this. You will probably have to create the DWORD value in your registry, as it most likely doesn't exist. Then, use the figure mentioned on the website below, as that will create maximum space in your registry:

Interestingly, Microsoft says that there are no longer registry size limits in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. However, I don't know if that specifically applies to Media Center.

I don't understand why I'm the only one. What happens is that I walk away from this PC for an entire week at times. I wonder if regular reboots or whatever is why others do not have this problem. Or that others don't use Windows Media Center. The PC itself is very stable, I played lots of games on it and carried it with me from Norfolk to Richmond and up to New York for a couple of years.

I can't even find a record of that registry error message anywhere. One would think that if what you're posting is verbatim (the message), it wouldn't be hard to find info on.

Have you looked in the Event Viewer when this error comes up? Start-Settings-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Event Viewer-System Log. What kinds of errors (red icons) are you seeing there, particularly as they apply to the registry?

Thanks for your interesting responses. I've grown so DULL and ROUTINE to the error message I've forgotten where my screenshot is across my 2 pcs and 3 laptops ... anyway I'll respond back when it happens to me AGAIN

lol

May be a few weeks, with this snowstorm I'm not sure if my satellite signals will return before I fly off to work again
