Strategy to decide on RAM ?

Hi all,
I have an E6400 and just ordered a P5B deluxe WiFi.

Ram is expensive these days so I don't want to get the wrong kind especially with soooo many options out there.

My idea is to get a cheap stick of PC2-5400 /667MHz. Then run big dividers on it and see how high I get my CPU.......then order the appropriate RAM to get a 1:1 divider with tight timings.
What do you all think?
Is my idea sound?

The 965 chipset boards don't have a divider that takes your ram below 1:1..so 1:1 is the slowest speed you can run the ram at, so you'll only be good to 333mhz FSB before you start being limited by the ram if you only get 667mhz.

Thanks for the awesome fast reply....

So now I'm stuck playing the RAM lottery game.
It's going to kill me trying to decide on a 2GB pair.
Especially as I am looking for the faster FSB with the E6400.

Oh god, what to do, so many brands, so many versions.
