So, My roomates and I are huge fans of Rise of Nations, and of course AOE. We used to play Rise every week.

Anyway, can you guys recomend any other RTS type games?

Rome: Total War, turn based and RTS like Rise of Nations. RTW is an excellent game.

Cossaks
Settlers 3/4---5 comes out in a week or so

These 2(Cossaks/Settlers) are not the most graphically advanced, but have great gameplay elements. Cossaks can have battles with up to 8000 units, and Settlers focusses more on the Economic side of things than actual battles(though battles are a big part). The upcoming Settlers has excellent graphics and a much changed gameplay and has a demo available.

RoN is probably the best RTS I've ever played, but the others mentioned in this thread are certainly worth playing as well.

For true real time, choose the Homeworld series and the battle part of the total war series if you want pure tactics.

homeworld really was great
warcraft 2 will be ever fun
battle for middle earth was fun at first, but i want bigger and more awesome battles, and that game doesnt satisfy. that and the view is castrated.

warrior kings, while buggy, could have been amazing. huge views, enourmous armies (1000+ units, i took my brother on in a couple of those) and fun play. but, the unit pathfinding was off and it had no skirmish. they attempted to better the game with WK:Battles but the publisher rushed them (so said the dev team) and it was buggier than the first.

shame too, amazingly fun as far as strategy went, at least for me. i need to get Rome and try it.

AOE2 and its expansion are my absolute fav rts's, followed by AOM/Titans. Unit control like no other game.

LOTR:BFME looks pretty good too, i cant speak for it though.

Odd, aside from the Total War series, I haven't seen any other RTS's to have such large and awesome battles as Middle Earth, it's one of the reasons I enjoy it so much.

What about a good multiplayer RTS?

WH 40k is only soso. There is no real skill involved in the game.
BFME is said to be horrible mp.
R:TW is said to be best played as single player due to balance issues.

Where are the good multiplayer RTS? I am still playing Frozen Throne here people! Am I going to have to wait for a new blizzard game.

Oh and I didnt really like AOM

Dawn of War: Stunning, the best RTS Ive played in years.

WC3/TFT: Not bad, the single player Bonus Campaign in TFT is just the business. If only Blizzard made that Bonus Campaign into a fully-fledged game.

Homeworld: the ultimate space RTS with graphics that most games only dream of.

Multiplayer RTS, if you like warcraft3, try out Kohan 2. You'll immediately recognize the UI, as it's almost entirely a clone of war3. But the gameplay is tweaked to some things that Kohan has, which are all good things. Personally as Kohan fan, I didn't like it, but I don't like war3. But if you like war3, it'd probably be better than it.
