Strangest error I've seen on my rig...

I capped a screenie of it here. As far as I can tell, there's no rhyme or reason to when it has been happening. The only thing in common that I've been able to notice is that I'm always online.

I rebooted a couple times when it happened under 10 minutes, and I just had it run for a solid 30 minutes or so (while I was playing Total Annihilation) before it flaked on me. I'm really at a loss as to what would cause this, but I'm going to reboot and not connect to the internet at all to see if that solves the problem. Whatever happens, I'll update tomorrow at the latest. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That said, here are my specs:
Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9
Opteron 146
BFG 7800 GT
2 (2x1) gigs of Patriot DDR-400 (2-3-2-5)
Onboard Sound

I think that's everything relevant; all my Windows Updates and things of that nature are up to date. I'm going to go check out spyware and viruses and things of that nature, but I doubt it's that because I don't use IE, don't surf suspect sites, and don't download suspect files. Yes, that includes pr0n.

Like I said, anything that you can think of would be a great help. I checked Google on this one, but the general consensus seemed to be that it was a result of MSBlaster, which I most certainly don't have because I didn't even build this machine until 2004 and have always had antivirus software.

Thanks!

I know I created this thread recently, but I figured this was enough of an update to warrant another post:

I checked the Event Viewer and noticed that every time it happened, it came up with the following information:
Faulting application svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.2180, faulting module netapi32.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x0000a3c0.

I took a screenshot of the details of the error screen (available here), and the technical information on the detailed part of the error screen (available here). I ran Ad-aware and Spybot Search & Destroy, which found nothing besides some tracking cookies.

I ran Hijackthis! just to see if I could find anything untoward, but I didn't notice anything; I can post that log upon request.

Two disturbing things that I noticed, however, are that my computer is far more sluggish than it used to be and that when I tried to run Housecall, the window would automatically close. That would seem to indicate virus-type activity to me...

Any ideas would be awesome at this point. I'm starting to get concerned.

I'm 90% sure there is a patch out for this error, I used to get them once in awhile.

The Patch File is called "WindowsXP-KB894391-x86-ENU.exe" It's just under 2 MB's I still have it on my daughters computer, I used to have to use it before but I haven't had to use it in awhile for some reason.

You should have gotten that installed automatically if you use Windows Update. You can check whether there's a folder named $NtUninstallKB894391$ in your Windows directory.

The svchost.exe Generic Host Process is the program that runs to load many of the Windows Services. If you look at task manager, you see several instances of it running, which is normal. netapi32.dll is just one of the DLL files used for networking services. See if it's always that DLL that causes the error, and always that fault address. It's possible there's a hardware issue but it sounds more like a bug.

Thanks for all the replies thus far. I have my Windows Updates set on manual update, but I make it a point to download them regularly; checking the date on that one, it seems that I would have already gotten it, but I downloaded it and ran it anyway.

I checked the Event Manager, and the faulting module and fault address are always the same. Hopefully that'll fix it but, since it seems to be a network issue, I'll go ahead and mess around on the net for a while until I'm satisfied or until it flakes.

That really seems like it might be the solution to my problem. I closed all the ports on those and I'm just going to work out on the internet until it dies on me.

I'll make sure to have it going overnight as well, but let me send a pre-emptive "I love you" to everyone who helped me solve this problem.
