What would cause the permissions on a file like dsound.dll to suddenly change? A few days ago it became inaccessible even to dxdiag. When I looked at the permissions for the file, they were the same as before, administrators and system both had full access, but the file was still locked and couldn't be accessed by any software. I could still access it, so on a whim I gave users and power users full access to see if that would maybe "reset" it. It seems to have done the job, but I'm still not sure why it did.
What's puzzling is that nothing changed in my system config that I know of that would cause a change in security policy, and no other files were affected. I used the same account as always, I didn't install any new software except drivers for a Wacom tablet. Could it have happened because of an NTFS error?
