Strange windows XP problem

Most of the time when I open the Task Manager it puts a small CPU usage meter in the system tray like the pic HERE

Sometimes it does not, like the pic HERE

Can anyone explain this? I'd prefer to see the little CPU Usage meter in the system tray all the time.

sometimes it will show up if u move your crusior around there..

Open up your task manager and click the options tab and make sure the proper options are checked. Make sure it doesn't minimize on close, because that would explain your problem. Now with it happening every now and then, I have no clue on that mate. Sorry.

The issue exists on all my systems (Some SP1 and Some SP2). After a lot of searching it appears to be a known bug with no resolution.

Edit: A good alternative seems to be Process Explorer
