Just installed a new Duron system for a friend, everything went find except I CANNOT get a printer installed. When I go through the add printer diaglog in Win2k, ALL the Printer manufacturer's have %'s before and after their name.. IE, %HP% %CANNON%, etc.. I know for sure THAT is not normal because I checked 3 other Win2k systems and none of them showed up like that. I know communications is good to the printer because Win2k detects it as new hardware, but never installs the driver..

When I try to manually add the printer (HP Deskjet 812C), it goes all the way through the setup procedure, until the very last page where you hit the "FINISH" button.. at that point it pops up with a dialog that says:

"Printer drive was not installed. Operation could not be completed."

I am thinking it possible the .inf file could be missing or corrupted, but I can't seem to find any .inf files that contain the HP printers.. Other than that, I don't have any idea.. anyone run into this before?

Haven't seen that problem before but sounds like what I see if I try and load a phantom network printer. Have you tried to download new drivers from hp?

Yeah HP says to use the drivers included with Windows 2000.. I might point out though that this happens with ALL printers listed in the setup wizard.. no matter WHAT company I choose.. I can't add ANY printer.

I have from a *Good source* that HP has free email support on their Website. Find out how to install it, if it is USB you will have to plug and Play, and above all, everytime you try to install, Run an uninstaller.

And they do have instructions along with the download for the 810 series on their website. Just click on that orange button on their Hompage.
