strange WIN XP question?

I have done several XP pro installs and I have noticed
something weird. I go into device manager and where
all of the devices are listed I have noticed more than once there
is no title for the CD-ROMS, it is just blank. If you click on it
the correct drives show. All of the others like disk drives,
floppy controllers, display adapters, etc. are shown but no
title for cd drives. It is no big deal and I was just wondering
if anyone has noticed this or can tell me why.

I have done almost two dozen WinXP Pro installs personally, and have had my hands on a bunch of others, and I've never seen what I think you're describing. Are you saying that you're seeing this behavior on ALL of your WinXP Pro machines? Because, if you are, that indicates some commonality (besides the OS) among them that's causing this. Since WinXP uses the browser for displaying the Device Manager dialog I'm wondering if you're seeing abnormalities in any other dialogs that are handled by the browser. Are these installations from a common CD, like a corporate version of the OS? Or has a "branded" version of IE been installed on these systems?

Very interesting problem.
