Strange Wallpaper

I must have hit something unintended. I now have my normal wallpaper and at the left boarder is the startup tasks normally seen in windows explorer. How can I remove this?

You mean the taskbar? Has the Windows Start button or Orb on it? If so just drag it back to the bottom.
 
Do what MedicBob suggests - make sure your Taskbar is unlocked. Then when it is back where you want it, lock it.
