Hey Y'all I'm new to the Forums so be patient with this young Jedi!!
My Problem is:
I Just got an ATI Rage128 Pro 32 Meg Card.
A Tyan S1598 Super Socket 7 board with the VIA MVP3 Chipset. Did some Research online, found the ATI Driver Revision for the VIA Chipset.
Round 1 - I Installed the Revision of the Drivers, Rebooted, and the System Froze. Rebooted in safe mode, selected the minimum Resolution to Re-Boot. Windows found the Hardware again, wanted to re-install the drivers, i did that. Then it asked mr for the AGP VxD Drivers I installed them in "Normal Mode" Re-Booted. System Freezes Still. Couldn't reboot in anything other than Safe Mode.
Round 2 - Try ro Uninstall the ATI Drivers, Can't Un-Install the Drivers in Safe Mode. did some Tricky Registry Editing, Removed All References to all the ATI Stuff, That worked fine for the Removal.
Round 3 - Re-Installed the Drivers, this Time a Different Re-Vision. Reboot, same as Round 1.(see Round 1!!) Made Sure I re-installed DirectX7. Installed the VIA VXD Drivers, and guess what..... and got this for a Start-Up Message "not found, ISTMP directory does not Exist or is too large" Scoured the HD for References to this. Directory/and or File (i assume it was some kind of Temp Directory created by the Install)
Round 4. Format C:\ always works!! got on another machine and re-downloaded the drivers, and guess what, i'm right back to where i started.
Anyone Ever Experience this Problem??
I would be greatful for any pointers!!
Thanx

I feel your pain.....

I just installed a brand-spankin' new card just like yours. I was luckier, however, since I am blessed with a BX motherboard instead of MVP3 funkiness. My only glitch is with Quake 2/Quake 3 using openGL. I'm heading over to Rage Underground, where they live and breathe ATi. The forums there helped me out when I set up my Rage Fury (not Pro) on another machine and had problems.

I know there are issues with the Rage 128 cards and MVP3 chipsets, but there are also ways to make it work successfully. See you at Rage Underground!

Good Luck. Oh, and why oh why does ATi make such promising cards and then have their crappy drivers make the whole thing a hair-pulling exercise in frustration trying to make them work?

Thanx for the Link. I agree. Good 2D Card, Crappy Drivers. I have a GeForce DDR in my Athalon machine, it installed like a charm, Great Driver Support, but to get one with Composite out or S-Video out is like an Extra $50-$100 Bucks. I'm not much of a gamer, and i wanted a Really Good Consumer Priced/Grade 2D card to do Video Transfers......... Thought the 128 was the One. Oh well, looks like I'm movin' on up to a More Expensive Card just to get good driver support. I'm goona try the Older Drivers that were posted on the Link you sent.
Thanx for your help!!

Hey did you check your Bios settings for AGP. I had a Tyan trinity 400 that had lots of crazy ajustments for it that I had to mess with to get it to work with the card I was using.(a ati all in wonder). Make sure agp 4x is not enabled Via's support for it sucks. Get the card goin then try it if does 4x. I haven't looked up the specs on those.

I have the Rage Fury 32 meg and it crapped out on me once. Everyone told me that AGP cards "pop out of the slot". Well I reset it, reloaded drivers, etc, etc, even reloaded Windows just like my tech support guy said. NOTHING. So finally I started doing goofy stuff since none of the legit stuff worked. What did it? Pulled out the Vid card, satarted the comp with no vid card at all, let it boot up as far as it could, shut it down, re installed the card and it worked. Had to start with the regular Windows driver then move up to the ATI driver. I have no Idea why this worked, I know it sounds goofy but it might be worth a try. Good luck.

Thanx for all the Pointers Guys, Already been a big help.
The RageUnderground site was a Huge help, (as far as Older Drivers go!!)
Yeah, I had to do the same thing too!! finally got it going. Downloaded the Bios Update. Seemed to work OK. but the card just wont work with the Newer Drivers. I've pretty much given up. The older Drivers work fine, but Full screen Video Playback is Sluggish, and DVD Playback is a Nightmare. I Tried the Card in my Atalon Board, and the EXACT SAME Problems occured. Anone know of any other "Consumer Grade" Cards that are rated for Good 2D, and Have S-Video Outs??
If not, it looks like I'm moving into a Pro Card!!
Still Disgusted in RI!!
