strange video issue with lcd screen

Hi everyone, I just purchased a 17"lcd monitor. the picture and all is great but i have a weird issue when i play games. When i'm in a game and there is a vertical line(outside corner of a wall etc...) and i turn the vertical line breaks up and it each piece of it moves at a different time. when i stop turning it's all fine. I thought this might be a refresh rate issue but i tried playing at lower resolutions with a higher refresh rate and i had the same problem. Does anyone have any ideas? Could it be my video card?(radeon 9800 pro)
thanks for any help

the 2 games that i notice it most are half life 2 and battlefront, and it i think it only happens when i turn quickly, i can't check right now cause i'm at work. now that i think of it it happens on vice city also

Well, I don't have a LCD monitor (yet) but what you are describing sounds like ghosting. Any idea on the response time of the LCD (25ms, 16ms, 12ms, etc.)?

This is simply tearing, caused by the video image change not being in sync with the monitor displaying it. Turn VSYNC on in your drivers, and all is fine.

I agree...sounds like tearing to me too.

Enable V-Sync, and also Triple-Buffering if it is offered.

What you are seeing, is called "tearing".
