I have a p4-1.7ghz on an Intel D850MV mobo. Ever since i got this PC, I have never been able to run this on a UPS (uninterrupted power supply). This is the strangest thing I have ever encountered with a PC in all my life. My UPS is a 500va system and worked absolutely fine with my older p3. But this thing doesnt work at all with the new p4. I thought that the P4 may need a larger UPS with higher battery capacity so I have tested this with a larger UPS with capacities of 1kva and 1.5kva. But this thing jsut doesnt work.

On power failure this PC reboots...where as if I connect another PC to the same UPS and simulate a power failure they dont reboot. This situation is so bad, that even in case of a power fluctatuation, my UPS boots only THIS PARTICULAR PC...the others keep running the way they are supposed to...I am wondering where I should start looking for problem in this PC? I have 2 baracuda 40gb drives in this system and I tried to use UPS with one REMOVED/disabled...to chk if it works with the UPS...no luck.. I have tried everything I can think of short of re-installing the OS...which is WInXP professional.

The PSU on my cabinet is a standard one that comes with a p4 setup.

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Does it go through the shutdown procedure, or does it just blink out and reboot?
I wouldn't think that reinstalling the OS would help if it just reboots right away.
How many systems do you have on this one UPS? There should be only one on something with a 500VA rating. What size is your monitor? LCR or a regular bulky CRT?
I have a fully loaded XP1900 system with a 17" monitor - my 650VA UPS only powers them for a few minutes. A UPS with a lower rating probably wouldn't be able to handle it at all.
