Strange Times

I just wrote JWM a PM reply that I decided to share with the rest of the TeAm. He asked me about my reference to "fat WUs".

I don't know what else to call them. It seems that from time to time (and usually in bunches) I get people on my mini-team reporting "stuck" WUs. WUs that either never start processing and remain at 0.00% or never transmit and stuck at 100%.

I have had two of those in the last 24 hours and I have just found out that my granddaughter's computer which hasn't sent in a WU in 6 days (normally 2 @ day) is showing a WU about 1/3 done. She has 0 WUs to return and has a two-tone blue icon showing. I had my son send me her setilog and it shows nothing completed since May 15th. :Q So I'm not sure what the heck is the matter there. The computer in question is working because my son used it to send me the setilog file.

Crazy times.

In that vein, I just had another member call me about all of the "M"s disappearing from his computer. He first noticed it in his email address book. Then he saw the same problem on the internet. He went to some news site where there was an article about the MGM Grand and he said all he saw was " G Grand". He turned off his computer and let it stay off overnight. He just started it up and the problem has now disappeared. Isn't that the strangest you ever hear. OH, yes he did run a virus scan and PC-Cillian didn't find a thing. :Q

Well, that is definately odd............

I had a machine that would occasionally get stuck on a WU, but it was only that one machine and I thought there might be something flaky with it....... Of course, that was using the motherboard that I had to solder a capacitor back on to after I knocked it off the motherboard putting a CDRW drive in the machine, that would have anything to do with it, would it? 😉

I have never had a machine get stuck on a WU like that. I have had WUs that transmit after a sec (noisy) but never a "Fat" Wu.

I have seen Wo Fat from Hawaii Five-O, but we discussed that already 😉

Here's a follow-up on my granddaughter's computer, a PIII 600 MHz.

I had her father take a look at the computer earlier today. He reported that the current WU was a little over 60% done and as I mentioned earlier had 0 WUs to upload/download.

It had been over 5 or 6 days since this machine had turned in a WU which I verified looking at the setilog.csv file.

The computer just finished completing that WU and this is what I found:

AR = 7.28 (A really SWEET WU)
CPU = 6 days 19 hours 13 minutes :Q

So this was definitely a SWEET ONE that was a little SOUR!

🙁
