Strange things with cable modem

I just got me a new cable modem, Linksys befcmu10 I works really well but cant understand the lights. Power light is on, activity light blinking, cable light not on but once in a while and status light on. Accrding to the book all the lights should be lit. Is this unusual?

Just noticed something else, I am getting pinged with something. The activity lite is on constantly on my router even with my lan shut down. Any ideas on that?

I don't know about Linksys, cause I've got a Motorola cable modem and a D-Link router, but I think all the lights should be solid on the cable modem except the activity light will be flashing/blinking.

The Data light will always be blinking to show communication with the ISP server. About you status light I dont know about that, my Toshiba PCX1100U does that also from time to time so maybe it's a self-diagnostic?

I always thought it was blaster, my activity light never used to blink 24/7, and now it does.

Probnably good advice. it is just weird as I was using one of those 3Com that looks like a shark fin and the only activity that I saw was on my router.

I always thought it was blaster, my activity light never used to blink 24/7, and now it does.

My activity light blinks 24/7 since I had the cable modem the past 10 months.

My cable modem data light didn't used to blink, except for when I was accessing/downloading something. Recently that damn thing won't stop and it is annoying the hell out of me. Make it stop!!

The blinking led's are driving me nuts!!! A bunch of computers with active Hard Drives blinking, modem blinking, router blinking. If I could just get them to blink all at the same time I could calibrate my eye blinking and never see them.
