I just upgraded this rig last night from an AMD X2 5200+. New CPU/mobo is a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR motherboard and Q9550 with stock HSF. No overclocking yet. 8GB of RAM (4x2GB Geil PC-6400) and a Sapphire Radeon HD3850 512MB video card.

Upon booting and poking around in the BIOS, the system temp is reported as 33C, and the CPU temp as -88C. In the OS, Everest reports roughly the same for the system temp, but 60C or more for each core. I updated the BIOS, but that didn't affect any of the temps.

Has anyone else had any strange issues with this combo? The CPU isn't throttling, and the heatsink is barely warm to the touch, so I highly doubt the 60C is even close to accurate, though I do have two instances of F@H running from the old setup.

Hopefully tonight I'll have a chance to install SpeedFan and/or RealTemp and see if they shed any light on the matter. Very odd indeed....

A barely worm heatsink could mean a bad contact between cpu and the cooler, so it's not always a good thing.

I would use CoreTemp or RealTemp, latest version of them and apply load on the CPU and then look at those temps.
