and it's coming from my computer. Could it be that there's a lotta dust bunnies clogging up one of my main fans and it's not spinning? Could it be my harddrive? It does this when I start up and then when it gets to windows, after about 2-3 mins, it quiets down. Too weird... Any suggestions would be helpful.

My boss had a similar noise coming from her laptop/docking station a few days ago. It only made the noise while it was booting up, very odd. Wish I knew the answer to her problem, would've looked good. The best I could offer was that it sounded like my hard drive right before it died but I couldn't offer an explanation as to why it would only do it on bootup without being caught in a web of BS :p

Nope. Smoke-free and proud of it. Any other ideas? I'm seriously thinking it's the hard drive. I blew it clean with some compressed air a week back. Still doin the same thing, but now it's totally random. Sometimes at bootup, sometimes the middle of me typing. I'm wondering if it's just because I leave it on all day and it's just wear and tear?

Open up the case and try to locate the source of the sound while the system is running.
