I'm having a really strange problem with sound from my computer. Under Windows98, everything is fine, sound is perfect. Under RedHat7.1, sound is also perfect. After upgrading to Win2K, sound is terrible. I've updated the drivers, and moved the card to a different PCI slot, and updated the drivers again, and then used the older, supplied drivers, and then updated the drivers again, and it still sounds the same.
The problem with my sound is that when the computer is doing nothing but playing MP3's its fine. MPEG movies play fine full screened. Windowed MPEG movies sound terrible. Games are unplayable. Even typing makes it skip some. What is happening, is all sounds are "accelerated" to say. Basically, 1 second of audio takes less than 1 second to actually play. So, in 1 second, WinAmp will play 5 seconds of audio. Its similar in computer games and other things.
My System:
Athlon T-Bird 1.0Ghz
Lite-On 16x DVD
8/4/32 Phillips CDRW
Hercules GeForce 2 GTS 64mb AGP video
Creative Ensonic PCI sound card
512MB 133Mhz SDRAM
40GB IBM 7200 RPM HD
60GB Seagate 5400 RPM HD
If you need more info, let me know.
