Strange sound problem (I am not making this up)

OK, heres one for the gurus out there. I have some sort of basic soundblaster card (not sure which model) installed in a computer a buddy and I built approx 3 years ago. I recently reformatted the hard drive and needed to reinstall windows etc. My sound card stopped working. I downloaded all the drivers for W98 from SB website and tried installing them figuring one would do the trick. I got one to take hold and I had good, working sound for about 2 weeks. Now, if my computer has been in hibernation mode and I try to wake it and play something on winamp for example, there is a strong, ultra-annoying static noise whenever any program plays a sound. BUT, now heres where it gets weird, if I hold the left mousebutton down as if I am going to drag a window around, the sound suddenly becomes crystal clear. SO as long as I dont mind taping that button down I can listen to music while I study, otherwise I have to reboot and listen until the comp goes into hibernation mode again whereupon the sound again becomes crap. Anyone have any suggestions as to what is actually wrong? I would say its just the driver, but it worked well for 2 weeks or so. Any expert advice would be appreciated

no clue as to what the problem is, but sounds like you need to disable hibernation and that should solve your issues. i know that doesnt exactly solve the issue, but it seems like the most basic thing to do to resolve the problem since hibernation seems to be the issue.
