Hi there, I have a PC running Windows XP SP2. The computer itself is an XP 1800 with 512Mb RAM so it's got a fair amount of processing power to go around. The strange thing that happens is when using the computer and listening to an MP3, the music will occasionally stutter as though the computer is working really hard at something and cannot afford the processing time to play the mp3 in realtime. This happens when using Winamp or iTunes, so it isn't the player sotware. I've checked for any dodgy processes running in the background that could consume all the resourses (eg viruses, etc) but nothing is being used. I've run norton, ad-aware and spybot (all up to date, etc) and they have found nothing. The problem first occured when the machine had only SP1 installed so I upgraded it to SP2 to see if that would sort it, but it hasn't. I have also installed the latest motherboard, graphics card, sound card and BIOS updates. The speakers have been tsted and they work fine.
When idle or just playing an mp3 the processesor usage never goes above 10% so there doens't appear to be anything in the background that's stressing out the computer. This problem never used to happen and we've had over a year of faultless operation. Short of a complete format and re-installation, has anyone got any ideas as to what this could be?
Many thanks in advance.
