Hey guys, for those who haven't heard, we had a pretty good storm in Austin, TX yesterday with some close lightning strikes near me. Fortunately my computer wasn't harmed, but it seemed like my D-Link DI-704 router was damaged (somehow). The LAN lights would not come on when I plugged in the cables.
Anyways, I was able to get a new one at Best Buy (still covered under the exchange policy). This one seemed to work fine until I actually tried to use the Internet. With the old router, I literally just plugged the cables in and it worked like a charm, I had DHCP do everything for me. However now when I set it up like I did previously, I can't get anything. Web pages don't load and I can't even ping the router (192.168.0.1) But it does seem to be getting the infromation from the WAN: Winipcfg lists the IP address, DNS servers and when the lease was obtained on the IP address. I also can't even access the router's web based configuration because my computer can't find the router.
I finally found a solution, but I had to manually configure the IP address (192.168.0.2), the subnet mask, Gateway, and DNS. This allows me to surf the web and successfully ping the router and access the web based configuration. I guess I'm not too concerned since I found the solution, but I was hoping someone could tell me why the router doesn't automatically set itself up properly anymore? It was alot more convenient then.
Thanks,
Jeff
