I am working on something where this is a necessity. I don't even remotely know what to Amazon search for... nor do I have a clue if any of this music is published.

I would imagine that has been westernized somewhat. This needs to be convincing.

there's a brain wave. :)

Get the theme music from Tetris. :) I'm thinking any "Soviet-era" music you are thinking of is "westernized" b/c you think it's soviet-era since you saw it in a movie. Also, the soviet-era spanned some 80 years. Music changes a lot in 80 years. are you looking for early soviet, or late soviet?

Quote #1: Second Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky as well

Quote #2: Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov wrote some great stuff.

None of those composers lived in Soviet Russia... Shostakovich and Prokofiev are perhaps the only well-known composers who had to deal with the Soviet system, and most of their music became watered-down due to the artistic limitations imposed.

He didn't request music by composers that lived in the Soviet Union, he requested Soviet "sounding" music, which in my ears, both Rachmaninoff and Rimsky-Korsakov evoke the imagery and pageantry that Communism seems to adore.
