Strange, Really annoying problem ... HELP

Ok, here's the problem I'm using the computer, playin mp3s on winamp, when all of a sudden one of my apps stops responding (random program). Sometimes it would be the winamp thats at 100% cpu constantly.

So ok, i went ahead and end process on the sucker. All seems well again, atleast for a few seconds. THen i notice my IE is now at 100%. I end process on that, and then suddently my soundforge is at 100% and its not even in use, i merely activated the window. Great, i ended that as well. And then explore.exe is now (at the time of me posting this) at 100%, and i ended that as well. And now my AIM is at 100%. Im afraid that if i end process on AIM, itll make my IE not respond 100% and i wont be able to post this message. Basically it seems with each program i end process, the next application that i start using goes to 100% and stops responding.

Any ideas on what's going on?

NOD32 antivirus
Dynsite

remote administrator

Spyware/virus/worm is my first hunch. Do you have a firewall and virus scanner installed? D/L and run Spybot and AdAware.

Seconded on the spyware/virus/worm suggestion.

Go to "start >> Run >> MSConfig". Go to the 'startup' tab and uncheck anything you don't recognize. (search for it on google if you don't.) Restart, and if you are still getting it, go back into MSConfig and and turn everything off in the startup tab. Restart your computer and see if it is still going on. If yes, 99% chance of it being a virus. If no, turn one or two things back on and restart. Check again. If yes, you've found your culprit. If no, turn a couple more on, repeat.


First and foremost, do a virus scan with updated definitions and a spyware scan with spybot and adaware.



Edit: Unless you need it, turn remote administrator off. Dumbest thing to leave on ever.

Which OS are you running? Only time I had a problem like that was on windows 2k AS.
