Strange RAM overclocking and overvolting behavior?

So, when I built my new rig, I was bitten by some sort of parasitic creature, which some call the overclocking bug.
I bought my parts, not thinking I would be interested, but soon found out I bought two of the easiest to and most overclockable parts there are. 3200+ venice E3 and 7800 GTX.
Anyway. The CPU does great at high frequencies, like 2.6/2.7 GHz, but my ram is more moderate, topping out at 230 MHz. I'm not complaining, but if I so much as touch it with 231 MHz or 2.8 volts +, I either fail to post or blue screen in windows XP.
My ram is rated for 2.5-3-3-6 timings, so I figured I would try some looser timings, 3-4-4-8, but I still get the same results. Am I doing something wrong? The ram itself is nice and cool. I don't think it's ever gotten more than mildly warm. Specs are listed in my sig.
