Strange RAM Issues

I have a strange issue, I recently got my old server back and it hasn't ran in about 4 years and I now have an issue with it....

Issue:
I have a 512 ram stick in it now, along with a 1gb, yet when the PC boot it only registers the 512 stick, if I throw in another 512 stick it simply doesn't post.

I know both ram slots are good as the 512 stick registers in both. I am sure its a problem with the 1gb stick seeing, but you would thing the motherboard would give some kind of indication of post beeps if a bad stick was in there.

Let me know what you know.

Quick footnote: this is on a AsRock P4i65G Motherboard.

Have you tried the 1GB stick by itself?

Is this an AMD CPU? I've had AMD CPUs where the memory controller starts going bad, and will start to only register a single channel of memory.
