I have an inspiron 6000 lappy, and i recently bought a 1 GB stick of ram to add to the 512 that it came with. However, when i tried to install the new stick i get strange issues.

-If the 512 is in slot A/1GB in slot B, the system boots, but i get a memory read/write failure before it boots to windows.

-If i swap the positions (1GB in slot A, 512 in slot B), the system won't boot. This made me think the new stick may be bad...

BUT,

-If I take out the 512 and leave the 1GB in, the system works fine. Even if i switch slots, as long as either stick is the only stick in the system, everything works perfectly.

Possibly relevant info:
512 stick - Unknown DDR2 3200 (whatever dells ship with)
1GB stick - TwinMOS DDR2 5300

I know optimally dual channel would be the best setup, but even still, would the new stick of ram work fine by itself if it was bad? Or should i be checking to see if the dimm slot itself is bad?
