Strange question - next gen AGP or not?

Nvidia and ATI would be excluding themselves from a very large market if they completely ignored AGP for the new cards. I think the current consensus/prediction around here is that they'll appear in PCI-Express first, then AGP later.

We dont know. THe cards haven't even been released yet. You know no more than us.

I would think that they might release mid-range and low end cards in AGP but im thinking the highend cards are gonna be PCI-E.

i keep wondering on this.

my gripe is i bought a 6600gt agp which came out first on pci-e and then nv used a bridge on the card to convert it to agp. i'll say, the evga version of that just plain sux to cool. i had to use a vf700 and because its in a smaller case i had to bend the fins to get it to fit at all. even then the ram sinks barely fit and needed to be cut/bent to make decent contact.

i hope they don't do the same for the 7800 agp or maybe its just evgas solution that was so bad. but there were a lot of threads on cooling the 6600gt agp with an aftermarket cooler and because of the layout it just wasn't easy to do.

I don't have the link, but I believe Ati and nVidia both stated AGP will be released on next gen cards..

The Highend cards WILL defintiely come out in AGP. It's a foolish mistake if they don't..

From now on, the cards will natively support PCIe. However, they will make a PCIe to AGP bridge on the cards, allowing AGP to still exist.

aye, thats the bridge i speak of. good luck with that. at least looking at the pics of the 7800 they have som room around the rams and the core.

Well those Bridge Chips work OK on the current 6600series... A newer version of the chip may decrease the difference of native PCI-E and emulated PCI-E via the AGP even smaller.
