strange question about lcd panel on notebook

ok , i have two HP xh216 notebook computers. Now one is broken, the screen goes insane every once in a while. The LCD panel itself is flawless, but ithink the video chip is broken, or the power inverter on the panel. The other laptop was fine, but my friend at college wanted to borrow it, and not knowing how to unhook it apparently, just pulled on it until he broke the plastic clasps on the connector. the connector is unfortunately onboard and soldered to the motherboard.

Now i took this computer apart, and found that the s3 savage ix 4mb card is on a seperate daughter card (makes me think why isn't there a geforce 2 go daugther card). Anyways, i'm thinking i'll take the computer with the messed up video, and try to fix that on it and move my hard drive over instead of swapping their motherboards to get a non broken ethernet port on other one. Now, if its not that video chipset thing, does anyone know what to do to replace a lcd power inverter, and exactly what it looks like?
