Strange Problems with Hard Drive Errors in Event log....HELP!

All, I need a little help. I am stumped

I am having some issues with an event critical error that is in my system log.

The error text is:

?The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\D.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.?

The Specifics?.

Source: Disk
Category: None
Type: Error
User: N/A
Event ID: 11

I haven?t had any issues with my HD but am wondering if this is a symptom of a problem to come or possibly an incorrect configuration of the driver. This is a new XP Pro install.

I have a p4vmm2 mainboard that has Dual PCI IDE interfaces - support four IDE devices (PIO mode 4, DMA Mode 2, Ultra DMA 66/100)
The HDs I have IBM Deskstar 60Gig connected to the UDMA controller and Maxtor 80 Gig connected to the IDE controller.

I am also getting this error which might be another symptom

?A parity error was detected on \Device\Ide\IdePort1.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.?
The Specifics?.

I have done a search on the second error and found this information at Microsoft Knowledge Base

If anybody has had a similar problem or can provide guidance, I would appreciate it.

The saga continues. I don't think today is my day. I think the board might have died. Upon boot up it will check RAM and find all drives and then lock up. I tried to get into the bios to mess around with it but it locks up too!!!! I can't even flash the board, I have already reset the bios from the jumper, no love. I have swapped RAM swapped HD taken everything out, im losing it. I think the board might be toasty.

hi,
i've seen this a few times. most times it was the ide interface in the chipset that had gone bad. this was a rma the board experience.
the other time was with a abit nf7-s v1.0 nforce 2 mb that was running winxp with the nvidia 2.03 sw ide drivers. this was a bad combination and the errors cleared up when i moved to win xp and the microsoft ide drivers.

looks like you might need a new mb.
good luck.

New mobo on its way. I went for the
Product Description Quantity Price
Combo - Intel P4 2.66GHz (533 FSB, 512K Cache) OEM (60 Day Warranty) + Shuttle
AV41P (2 Year Warranty) + Fan 1 $233.00

This should be a nice step up and pretty cheap. Also, I will pursue getting the other board RMAd from ECS and maybe give it to my girlfriend......

Thanks for the help folks.
