I built a new rig and as usual theres a few teething problems, this one is weird though or at least ive never seen anything like this.

I turned in the comp this morning, walked off and let it load, came back to see a blank screen with the mouse pointer still there, i assumed it was some sort of stand by etc... so anyways i move the pointer and the windows logo comes up saying "preparing your desktop" then im greeted with a windows 7 basic themed desktop with a lot of the stuff i installed yesterday missing, firefox was there and apparently had never been used before, the xonar audio manager was there. It was almost like a completely different user account but i never made a different account, theres only myself (admin) and the guest account which is turned off. I shut down and started up again, watching the comp this time and it boots into windows fine, everythings there as normal.

What could cause this??

Specs are:
Windows 7 ultimate x64
asus P6TSE
core i7 920 (stock)
6GB ddr1600 memory (at1333)
xonar d2x card
radeon 5850
600w cooler master silent pro psu

also:
wd 500 hdd
2x external 1TB hdds plugged into the back of the mobo

It wasent another account it said "admin" although it looked and behaved exactly like another account would.

It wasent safe mode either.

Ive got windows defender and microsoft security essetials both doing full scans in case its a virus or something, windows defender was turned off by default, which i thought was strange its never been that way when ive installed win7x64 before.

Hmm it was a bad memory stick, failed memtest 86+, comp boots with other sticks, wont boot with just this bad one, even in different slot.

I remember having bad memory before and XP simply bluescreened, windows 7 seems to be different in that it does odd things and slowly falls apart over time, which i guess accounts for the other "teething problems" i had. :/ Ah well RMA time :)
