hi
i have just installed a new modem in a friends computer at my house, i wanted to try to see if it was working properly by setting up an account on with an isp i use and have a cd for, the cd is about a year old and when it tried to connect to the internet to set up for the first time the number had changed so i couldnt get any further. so i closed the programme

this is were the problem starts, each time i click on ie (in the taskbar)to open it, it brings up the page to continue the setup programme for the isp, does anyone know how i can get rid of this problem so that only the connection box will come up. i have tried contacting the isp (on my pc)but each time i submit the message an error occurs and its not transfered

thanks

Have you checked to see if you have a internet connection?
Start = connect to ?

First I would check my hard ware profiles to make sure that my modem is installed and that the drives are current.
Then I would delete all of the internet connections and make a new one starting all over.

thanks Grunt03 for the reply
the modem is installed and can be found in device manager
i originally tried to set up 1 of my isp connections on it just to see if it would work. which got as far as all the modem noise but rejected the password or username.

i had to make the connection through internet options as there was no dial up connection icon in my computer as there normally is, the only way to then connect at the moment is to click the ie button in taskbar.

i put in a magazine cover cd rom from an internet magazine which had a connection from a different isp. when this ran, it tried to connect to its site to download all the information to make a new account but the phone number is now obselete, the companies tech support site costs 50p a minute and id like to try to sort this out without having to phone them.

when i now try to open ie from the taskbar i just get an offline webpage with options to cancel the instal or connect to the obselete number

how can i disable/get rid of the programme restarting to finish its connection?.

thanks cavill

only rarely will it loose drivers but if anything it will loose the video driver and maybe the modem but in my experience this hasnt happened for a long when i have been doing this repair proses but just run around device manager and get the names of all your devices and write them down see if it goes wrong then you know what drivers to go get..

Have fun it should work alright..

i did this same proccess as i mentioed eirlier only 2 weeks ago saved me having to reformat the machine i had only just formatted lol

I think you should delete all of the internet connections and set up a manual internet connection.
Just as "Allanv" has said. You should not need to re-install any drivers, nor should youlose any
information od your hard drive.
Keep in mind once you do this then you will have to do the same for the outlook express
