Strange problem with folder sorting in WinXP

I think i've had this problem for a year or so on my computer. I can make folders remember whatever arrangement settings i want for normal browsing. But when i want to open or save stuff through ANY program, the folders are always arranged by Last Modified.

This is really annoying esp for stuff like winamp where i'm always opening different files sorted under artist names.

any ideas?

remember: this ONLY happens in Open/Save dialogues. If i open a folder through Start Menu>Run... it's arranged just the way i like it

Because you aren't using Explorer, but rather another program's file browser.

but it wasn't like this before. do you have any suggestions on how to fix it? it happens with winamp, word, anything
