Strange problem on EPoX 8KTA3

I just upgrade my mainboard from FIC AZ11 to EPoX 8KTA3, but I met some strange problem(the processor is Duron750):

1. Can't adjust cpu multiplier even I close the L1. The system refuse to post.

2. I close one of the L6 bridges(suppose at this time, the system will boot on 700), but it's simply refuse to post.

3. The strangest thing is: my Maxtor 53073H4 Harddisk(30GB, 7200 RPM) was detected by the bios, but the capacity is only 2148MB. I try to upgrade the bios to the newest version but the problem still exists. Anyway, WinXP can detected the capacity correctly and I managed to install it.

Any ideas on above problems? Many thanks.

btw, about this mainboard, I enjoyed an ultra-fast delivery, order Monday(from newegg.com), get it Tuesday, use Fedex saver.

for question 1) & 2)...consult the manual for the mobo and see if there is a jumper that needs to change to allows bios controls of the multiplier....

3) run auto detection of harddrive in the bios...it is like it is not setup for large disk support...make sure all ide channel controls are set to auto for both dma and pio mode, but I don't think this is it. Try auto detection and scroll through options until it finds the right size drive...

Your mobo can supprot drives muck larger then the one you have so I don't think this was a bios update at all. Hell, most kt133 boards support 32gigs and above with default bios...

Thank you, Duvie. But I have studied the manual carefully and I am sure that I don't make any mistake about jumpers.

for the 3rd problem, the HD can be detected by AZ11 correctly, and, I am also sure that I set all the modes(PIO, UDMA) correctly, I also try to clear cmos/load default, but it seems that this mainboard dislike my old Maxtor :-(

Will I have personally seen many with this board and with maxtor drives such as yours (very popular site for maxtor fans)...Try the hdd auto detection in the bios and select the lba one...just see if that will help.

What are your jumpers like on the hdd itself? I know maxtor has several options from standard master/slave/cable select to master and slave for mobos that don't support drives that large...

try running maxtor utility disk to get hdd up and going.

try clearing the CMOS, and make sure the 133mhz fsb jumper is at 100mhz.

why? well this board actually uses the default multiplier found on the chip, so you either need to decrease the default multiplier, or increase the default voltage, or do a combination of the two.

Clearing the CMOS might solve your drive recognition problem.

anand has an article discussing how to get around the multiplier trick...

basically, close the multipler bridges on the cpu so that u can boot at postable speeds at 133mhz...keep the jumper on 133mhz after u close the jumpers on your cpu...boot up, shut, down, and adjust the multiplier onboard...

should work, non?

Hello,

I have 2 of these motherboards that are running Duron 700's @ 950Mhz & 1000 Mhz. I'm running PC133 memory (not DDR) from "COMPUWHIZ". They are very stable, but when setting both up, I had to have it running @700 with the clocking @133 to detect the hard drive (I spent a couple of hours tring to detect any hard drive). After installing WIN98se on the 950 as well as the 1000 running win 2000, I installed the 4 in 1 drivers. Afterward, I raised the multiplier and the FSB to achieve my desired speed.

These are very stable boards.
