Strange Problem Logging On to a Site

Starting Friday evening, when I attempt to log into Walmart, I receive error stating either my email addy or password is incorrect. Fine, except I had logged on then off successfully 30 minutes earlier. Yesterday I created a new email account and successfully logged on and, for the acid test, logged off. I could NOT log back on again and received the same error message. I tried on my wife's laptop but no joy.😕😱:\🙁

Walmart is the only site this has happened, plus this problem has never happened in my 20+ years of net surfing. Any ideas what's going on? Walmart support has no idea what to do.

Walmart is a convenient 15 minute drive from home so I'd hate to lose the ability of having a purchase delivered to my local store for pickup and the rare return.

I'm really curious and any thoughts and/or suggestions are welcomed.

Thank you in advance.

Do you use the option to store your ID and or password? I f you do try clearing any stored credentials for the walmart site.

It was over the phone. I sent an email and they responded with their 800 number and that has proven unsatisfactory. BTW, I'm using Firefox and Adblock Edge, but I've not changed settings since setup two months ago.

I use a similar browser setup. Works pretty well, but when I do run into site issues I always try them on IE with no add-ons just in case.

Good thought and try, ketchup79, but no joy. I'm sure it's something simple like holding my mouth a certain way, but darned if I can figure it out.

Have you tried to log in from a private browsing window in Firefox or an inprivate browsing session from IE?

If you haven't done it recently, it might be a good idea to run a malware scan. You might also want to run SFC /SCANNOW from an elevated command prompt to check your system files for corruption.

Hi Steltek. I just tried a private browsing window on both Firefox and IE, but no joy. I use Malwarebytes and ran a full scan this morning as well as yesterday morning. If you would be so kind as to elaborate on the SFC/SCANNOW I shall do just that.

Just to clarify something...your first post says that once the account stopped working, you also could not log in on your wife's laptop. That tells me that either:

a) someone or something is changing the password
b) you are entering the password incorrectly (either when you create the account, or when you try to log in later)

Actually, since it is happening on more than one system, I don't think the SFC command is going to help. Rather, I suspect that the common point of connection for both systems to the Internet is likely the problem.

I presume that you are connecting via a router? If so, what is the make and model of router?

If you have a separate router and modem, try connecting a computer directly to the modem via Ethernet cable, bypassing the router, to see if that makes a difference.

Hi rpjkw11, have you logged into sites requiring security since the Walmart issue started?

I would also be interested in what Antivirus/Internet Security software is running on the machines.

I've not had any problems at all; just Walmart. I'm running Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes. Each does a quick scan daily, and a full scan every three days. I also run CCleaner at least once daily and on startup.

Fardringle, this machine isn't used by anyone else and I will use my wife's for maintenance or if she has a problem.

the removal of the router is not that bad of an idea... since recently quite a few cisco/linksys routers got hacked

I have a Motorola Surfboard SBG6580. I connected directly using the Ethernet cable without success. I'm beginning to suspect WM has problems as you suggest, Virgorising. Saturday morning I moved money around by going directly to the bank, so there's nothing to be had. And all balances were correct. I noted the article mentioned online gift cards. I don't have any, but the way to find out is to breach WM's security.

Just for giggles I attempted to log on to Walmart this A.M. and it worked! However, I think I shall steer clear of Walmart's site, at least for the foreseeable future, simply for lack of trust.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who offered suggestions and, though you may not have been aware, moral support. My curiosity was becoming concern and it was nice to know I had such a great "think tank" guarding my back.

Thanks for sharing this.....so interesting! Maybe WM fixed the mess. At least you know it WASN'T YOU.

Bless you for this! Was my premise since having the luck to come upon this community, as it is in every arena, this site is only about technology on the face of things. Every member is a unique human....with a personality, feelings, all that normal stuff. Goal is for us to never sacrifice the best of ourselves in connecting and let ourselves morph into being software.

Terrible u hadda go thru any of this.
