Strange Problem, Is my computer fried? EDIT: FIXED

Got pretty hot here last night so I decide to put in my window air conditioner. About 10 seconds after I turned it on, the fuse blew, taking out the computer as well. Great..

So after I got the fuse back on, I came back upstairs and hit the power button on the computer. Nothing. I thought it must be unplugged or something, but it was not. Double checked the poweron the PSU, ON. Checked other things on the same surge protector (monitor, speakers), they all worked fine. So I figured the PSU must have been fried or something because the power button doesn't do ANYTHING. Then I noticed that the NIC on the back of the computer (which had a ethernet cable in it) had the green light on, and the yellow light flickering. Not something characteristic of a dead PSU..

So now i'm stuck, I tried switching the cables around so the Reset switch was the Power switch, and still couldn't get the thing to show me a spark of life (except the NIC, which is onboard the motherboard.).

Any suggestions?

EDIT: All is well, although I still have no idea what was wrong.

try this..

reset the CMOS. all you did was trip your breaker, did you hear a load POP? or smell smoke? just sounds like your computer is "pissed" at you for the moment.

If anything went wrong it's will be the CMOS chip that got fried. so you can buy a new chip from the MB manufacture.

if you would, give a little mroe detail, not that what you posted was lacking... 🙂

Hmm.. What kinda details would ya need? There was no "pop", no smoke, nothing appears (visually) fried. I'll try clearing the CMOS now, if that doesn't work, i'll try shorting the power switch on the motherboard with a HDD jumper, instead of using the power button. Probably won't work, but worth a try 🙂

EDIT: btw, "My Rig" is very outdated.... current system is a 8RDA+ with a 2100+, etc.

Did you check your PSU for a reset or fuse? Many will have one of the two.

The ethernet should not work if it tripped, but you never know.

Wow..

After posting, I didn't do anything I mentioned, I figured one more shot at the power button might help, so I plugged it back into the motherboard, pushed the button, and VOILA, power.

WHY? I don't know, these things make no sense..

Thanks for the help guys 🙂
