Hey guys,
Chime in if you have any ideas. An HP "Elite" pavilion e9290f with the IPTMTB-TK motherboard. i7 920, 9GB Ram, 460W PSU, GTX 260. So, when I got this, it wouldn't post, only gave 2 short beeps and then 1 long one. Tried a new GPU, got same result. Tried resetting the RAM, got same result. Tried with no RAM, got much quicker beep code, went back to the original beep code when I replaced RAM. I noticed in the top x16 slot there was a modem card, and when I touched it it was a gajillion degrees. I unplugged it to find the main chip was popcorned off.
Then, for kicks, I tried a new PSU. Eventually, with the new PSU, I got it to post with a crappy 3450, but in BIOS, I saw it was only seeing 3 of the 6 sticks of RAM. Some rubbing alchohol and reseatting eventually got me all 9GB back.
But, here's the weird thing: I can't get it to not throw a beep code with any GPU that has power plugs. It shipped with the GTX 260 that was in it, which it won't post with. I also tried an HD 7870 and a second GTX 260, no joy. But, it will post with a GT 7300 and that HD 3450. The fans also don't spin up on the large GPUs. They did at some point earlier in testing, but not anymore.
Any ideas, before I pull out all my hair? Even simple stuff I may have not tried would be appreciated.
Cheers
