I've been having this very strange problem lately. The problem is, the system locks all the time. Heres usualy what happens. I boot up the system, everything works fine. Im just talking to people on AIM, ICQ etc, and all the sudden, it just locks. No error messages or anything. I have to do ALT-CTRL-DEL 2 times, then a blue screen error comes up, I hit enter and everything works fine again(for a while). Then, a few minutes later, the system will lock the same exact way again, but I have to press ALT-CTRL-DEL 4 times to make the system reboot. This is really annoying me. It happened when I have an ABIT VT6X4 & Celeron 2 566, and now its happening on my ABIT KT7-RAID & Duron 600. Im using a new NIC card, new Sound Card, and a new Floppy Drive. Im using all of the latest drivers for everything, including the VIA 4-in-1's. The only hardware that could be causing the problem is:
Hard Drive: 15GB IBM75GXP (7200RPM, U/ATA100)
Video Card: Some old Cirrus Logic 1MB that im using
temporarily.
CD-Rom Drive: 52x Creative Labs
CD-RW Drive: Ricoh MP6200A
Ram: 64MB Crucial PC-133 Cas 3

I never used to have this problem, so I dont know whats causing it. If anyone has experenced this, or knows how to fix it, and can help me, I would appreciate it.

It's happening on two different systems?
If so, what software have you loaded on both machines since problem occured.....AIM? ICQ?

Also, what error is showing in the BSOD?

I never wrote down the error, and I just reinstalled windows and it hasnt happened yet. Most of the time it happens when im listeing to mp3s in winamp. I doubt its sound card related, because I used 3 different sound cards and they all did the same thing w/latest drives. This is 1 system, i used to have the vt6x4/celeron, but i swapped out the cpu/mobo for a kt7-raid/duron. If i get the BSOD again, I will write down what it says, and post it up here. And sometimes in AIM, as soon as somone sends me a message, it completely locks, and i have to reboot it.

I had serious problems with ICQ locking my system up hard. It happened all the time, but stopped when i upgraded to ICQ 2000b. You might want to try that out. As for AIM I am not sure, only think i can guess is that both programs could be doing the same thing that your machine doesn't like. I am running a VIA chipset too. I have a hunch that platform had problems with ICQ 2000a and 99a as well.

After Just Spending 2 weeks tracking down my own frezze ghost I just wanted to ask... Are you Using dx7.0a.... 2 weeks trying to figure out what was screwing with me I fineally tracked it down to dx7.0a. & I have found a few other people with the same problem... & Mine was the same. Hell I could boot to win & let my system sit for 3 min & have it lock. Another thing is if its not already than set your video to 256 colors. that 1 meger may just be overheating... (BTW Why in the he!! would you put that in an athalon, At all even)

64 mb of ram and your trying to run, icq, aim, winamp, and how many IE/netscape, this is probably causing your crash. LOw on system resources. What os? what

ahh...the POS 1 meg video card is in my system because i broke my geforce card...and this is the only card ive got to use until i can afford another geforce. I'm running Windows ME, so that has dx7.0 or 7.1 or something built into it. I only have 64 mb ram, so windows reports that i only have 65% of resources free...maybe that is causing the problem.
