Strange power behavior.

I built a new system a few months ago and put a Toughpower 700W PSU in it along with 3 HDs a DVD drive a dual core intel and an 8800GTS video card and a sound card. System has been running like a champ with zero problems.

Well I came home a couple weeks ago and it wouldn't boot. Nothing would happen when I hit the power buton. So after tinkering with it for awhile I gave up and just left it unplugged and went to bed. I woke up the next morning, plugged it in and it booted right up. Ran with zero problems for a couple hours before I shut it down.

Then a couple nights later it just shut itself off. Total power loss. It wouldn't restart. I figured I would try the unplug thing and let it sit for awhile. Let it sit for an hour and it worked great until I shut it down.

This has basically been the order of things since it started happening. With the holidays and work I haven't had a chance to tear everything apart. I did swap out the power cord just to make sure it wasn't the issue. The problem still occurs. I am going to try a few things tomorrow if I can get it to shut itself back down.

1. Unhook all power cables except for the MB cable and see if it will power up.
2. get a multimeter and unhook the MB as well and try the paperclip test.
3. Put a different PSU in to test it.

Anyone have a similar experience? It makes me really wonder what could cause a problem like this. I did a few searches here and on google and didn't read any problems exactly like this.

Chances are its the PSU. I've seen this kind of thing before with a failing PSU. Try a different PSU and then you will know for sure. If you still have the same problem with the new PSU then you have an issue with the motherboard. Could possibly be the Caps on the board but unless you are a soldering wiz you'll need to replace the board.
