2002 silverado 1500 5.3l about 80k miles

Replaced the PCV, when I took it out I looked at it and was astonished. It was the same size as my replacement, but the inside was totally different.

Replacement: shiny silver metal, makes a distinct clicking noise because of the pin inside

Old PCV: Totally empty. Hollow. Plus, the hole at the bottom (where you would stick your thumb to test suction) was just a pin-hole.

Wtf?

Guy at hardware store told me it probably "collapsed", and confirmed I had the right piece for my make/model.

Did the pin get sucked into my intake system? Come to think of it, I do remember hearing a "rattling" sound like a marble if I ever go full throttle (to pass a car in 2 lane)

Sounds like pinging to me.

Your PCV valve may indeed have failed, but I doubt it's related to the noise you hear when passing.

Sounds like you originally had the orifice type, which really cannot wear out. It's just a hole of a calibrated size. So I would clean your original one, and put it back in.

yep, I saved it and am going to clean it up.

It's not that dirty, but the grommet was pretty nasty so at least that is replaced =)
