Have 2 dvd drives hooked up through 1 ide cable, the jumpers are set correctly for slave and master.

What happens is the top cd rom drive hardly ever recognizes any dvd/cd that you put in it most of the time it does not work at all.

The bottom one will work if you put something in it right away but if you wait a few minutes it will not work.

If you have only the top one without the bottom, does the same thing it will not work.

IF you disconnect the master and leave only the slave drive connected on the bottom and boot windows it seems like the stand alone drive works ok.

Ok, so I got 2 completely new dvd burner drives and hooked them up and they are doing exactly the same thing.

I have tried another IDE cable too, to me this does not sound like a windows issue at all so I figure the issue is with the IDE controller on the motherboard, anyone agree?

Try booting with a DOS boot disk that has CD support. The drives should be recognized

www.bootdisk.com

Then pop a CD (not a DVD) into either drive and do a dir and see if it will read it.

Got bad filter drivers? Check my website in the CD/DVD section and let us know if that fixes you up.

I already tried that.

I removed lower and upper filters and it does not help.

Send me the output from the MPSReports file and I'll take a quick peek if you like.
