Hi there,

Ok I have a number of serious problems here and it's driving me crazy! First of all, I had a Maximus Formula with a C2D @ 3ghrz with a Geforce 8800 GTX on Watercooling. I was able to get my CPU @ 3.8 Ghrz and my gfx @ 670 mhrz without any overheating problems. The following was used in my watercooling setup

pump ( eheim Station 2 submerged 600 l/h ) -> Apogee GTX -> Ek Waterblocks 8800 GTX full cover block -> NB Fusion Block -> Blakc Ice GTX 360 Radiator (fitted with 3 Coolermaster Blue Led fans on it)

The case to house all that is a Stacker 830 EVO.

I decided to go for an SLi rig and for a quad core CPU so I got myself another 8800 GTX and a Q9450 C1 stepping all of them to be hosted in an Asus Striker II Extreme motherboard. I also wated to provide my system with additional cooling so I bought another pump of the same type 7 12cm Silenx Fans Pro and another Black Ice radiator this time a GTX 480.

I connected all of them in the following order

1st pump -> radiator (GTX 480) -> second pump -> radiator GTX 360 -> Apogee GTX -> EK 1st -> EK 2nd -> 1 pump

The 7 SilenX fans where placed on the radiators, the coolant used was PC Ice and the fittings where 1/2'

Oh and the room is not hot or anything normal temps and the rads are well ventilated...(they are under my desk though...)

When I first powered on I realised that my second gtx was defective so I went for an RMA and removed the 2nd ek waterblock so I could get my pc up and running.

This was the time that I got my first look at the temp, at stocks speeds everything the Core temps where like 60 C in each core and the CPU temp was around 45~48 C according to everest (using realtemp it reported all cores around 50C at stock speeds!). The first gfx was around 45 ~ 50 C in idle and well this was not a very good sight...if you take in account the time and money spent on these. Anyway any suggestions why is this thing so hot?

I'll provide photos of the set up if this helps (later to set up my phone for that )

Any help on this is welcomed!

Problems I see:
A submerged pump is the wrong way to go. All the heat the the pump generates is added to the water. And a second submerged pump probably adds more heat that is removed by the increased flow it provides.

Under a desk!!!! Aren't you just recirculating a lot of warm air back through the rads?

Get some "real" WCing fans. What's the CFM rating of those fans? What's the P-Q curve?

Hi there,

First of all thank you for your reply...Now to the main part... well yes, they are under the desk yes...but it's a pretty large desk to begin with and the air there is not at all warm...at least to my readings.

As for the pump, yes a submerged pump does dump some heat into the loop but still given the rads I have, the flow rate and the coolant (which is ~2lt) it doesn't make sense to have that much heat and both my cpu and gpu run that hot. I mean the previous set up I had which was what I described above had my C2D from 3 Ghrz to 3.8 Ghrz ( 35~ C idle and around 50~C load) and my gpu from 567 to 670 ( ~38C idle and 50C~ load) with no problem at all!. The rads and stuff where placed in the same position as they are in this setup that generates that problem.

The fans are SilenX Pro and have 74CFM (at least that's what SilenX says...).

Any further help would be welcomed!

you dont have enough flow as billb is stating.

you need to replace that pump or since you just need another pump, split the loop up.

So what pump should I get in order to make this thing work? Like a 1200 l/h (Swiftech MCP 655? or D5?) Any suggestions? If I split the loop will these pumps be ok?

Thanks for you help guys...
