Strange NVIDIA 2D problem

I've owned an ABIT Siluro Ti4200 card since last October and have been persistently annoyed by a strange problem that pops up when I try to install the newer Detonator drivers. It seems that anytime I open a halfway video-intensive program (say, an MPEG in Windows Media Player), my 2D performance is immediately crippled... that is to say the "framerate" within Windows plummets to where, for example, when you're minimizing a program, you can only see one or two frames as it travels down to the taskbar (even though I'm running @ 85Hz), the "fade" effect of menus no longer works because the card can't keep up with it, etc. I'm not sure if that's a clear explanation of what's happening, but hopefully so.

Anyway, this problem is far worse when using the version 40 or higher drivers. With the drivers I've been using to avoid the problem (30.82), this kind of issue comes up occassionally after heavy 3D gaming, but never simply from opening an MPEG or other 2D video tasks.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem?

looks like left over drivers, use driver cleaner after you uninstall from control panel, then install new detanaators, be sure to disable anti virus during install

Thanks, but unfortunately it's not a leftover driver issue. I remember installing the 44.03 fresh after a clean WinXP install a few months ago and still having the same issue, but decided to do the driver cleaning just to be sure, and sure enough it didn't help.

Any other advice? This is an odd but extremely annoying problem.

I'll check the warranty, but I bought it in October. It's really not a big enough issue to go through the hassle, though, since everything is fine with the older drivers. Just an annoyance I'd like to get rid of if possible.
